All Municipal Police Services and RCMP Detachments in Saskatchewan will be participating in a Province Wide Firearms Amnesty Program from March 21st to April 10th, 2022. The program allows the public to surrender unwanted, unlawfully possessed and illegal firearms to the police without fear of prosecution.

The immunity from prosecution does not apply to anyone who, when detained or arrested by the police  for an offence, is found to be in possession of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or prohibited ammunition. Moreover, the immunity is not applicable if it is determined that a firearm, weapon or device that was voluntarily surrendered has been used for a criminal purpose.

Direction to the public:

  • Call your local RCMP Detachment to request assistance in turning in the firearm, weapon and/or ammunition
  • Do not transport the item(s). Leave them undisturbed in your home, place of work etc. until police arrive.
  • Do not handle the firearm or attempt to unload it. Leave it where it is and police will retrieve it from that location. Please have any keys or combinations needed to open secure storage boxes/safes ready for when the police arrive. Please also have any associated ammunition and paperwork ready for police to pick
